BDNF and Anxiety: GF presented a lower TNF-α production following LPS stimulation and a higher CRT response to stress as compared to CC regardless of gender; male GF subjects presented lower BDNF, and higher production of 5-HT and 5-HIAA in the HPC as compared to CC, as well as a higher plasma TRP and a decreased KYNA/TRP ratio; GF female had a lower body weight as compared to CC. Gut microbiota recolonization led to a normalization of TRP concentration and of anxiety-like behaviors; no effect was described on the 5-HT and 5-HIAA concentrations in the HPC.
