There studies have shown that a high level of serum RBP4 may be associated with a higher cardiovascular risk in overweight/obese adolescent girls [27], a high level of baseline RBP4 in childhood was associated with an adverse cardiovascular risk profile upon a 10-year follow-up study [28], and the relationship between RBP4 and cardiovascular sequelae of obesity children appears to be secondary to the underlying association with body fat [29]. Here, RBP4 is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
