We hypothesized that low-dose brain radiation could interfere with proteins normally expressed in the brain which might prove to be beneficial in those CNS conditions characterized by pathological accumulations of extra- or intra-cellular misfolded proteins such as β-amyloid and hyperphosphorylated-Tau lesions in Alzheimer’s disease (AD), α-synuclein-positive Lewy bodies in Parkinson’s disease (PD), or prion misfolded protein in Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease (CJD)38. This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and Parkinson disease.
