While dMRI and PWI infer tumor pathophysiological features by assessing microstructural and perfusion/permeability tissue properties, novel magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) approaches enable the detection of specific diagnostic molecules, as in the case of 2-hydroxyglutarate (2HG), which accumulates in brain tumors as a result of IDH-mutation [19], thus representing the first instance of MRI directly measuring a mutation marker in brain tumors. This evidence concerns the gene IDH1 and brain neoplasm.
