Importantly in the context of an impact on beta cell function and diabetes, Transient Neonatal Diabetes Mellitus (TNDM) is associated with paternal UPD of chromosome 6q24 [50,51,52,53,54] (containing the PLAGL1/ZAC gene) or modified methylation at the maternal allele [55,56] with overexpression of Plagl1 in mice mimicking the impaired glucose homeostasis at the neonatal stage [57]. Here, PLAGL1 is linked to diabetes mellitus.
