Another two-center pilot study (Canada, USA) by Sterling et al. prospectively assessing the utility of the NGAL, serum creatinine, and interleukin-18 (Il-18) levels in children receiving chemotherapy (cisplatin/carboplatin or ifosfamide) showed that NGAL and Il-18 were very good predictors of drug-induced AKI [19]. The gene discussed is LCN2; the disease is acute kidney injury.
