Production of the regulatory cytokine interleukin 6 (IL-6) was detected for the glial cells (both OECs and TgSCs), but not macrophages, at all time-points p.i. For IFN-γ, only OECs responded to infection with increased levels at time-points prior to 48 h p.i, whereas at 48 h p.i., macrophages also secreted high levels of this cytokine; at this time-point, macrophages produced higher levels of IFN-γ than OECs (Figure 7B). This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and infection.
