Alzheimer’s disease is an insidious neurodegenerative disease characterized by the presence of senile plaques composed of amyloid-beta (Aβ) peptides and the formation and accumulation of hyper-phosphorylated tau into neurofibrillary tangles in the brain (Selkoe, 2010; Hyman et al., 2012; Reiss et al., 2018; Shefa et al., 2019). The gene discussed is MAPT; the disease is Alzheimer disease.
