PTENP1 sequence contains binding sites for many miRNAs, and therefore it can participate in the regulation of multiple genes in addition to oncosuppressor PTEN. For example, Chengping Wu and colleagues showed that PTENP1 may serve as a sponge for miR-27a-3p to upregulate EGR1 level in cervical cancer cells. This evidence concerns the gene PTENP1 and cervical carcinoma.
