BRCA1 and ovarian carcinoma: In the absence of an effective screening method for ovarian cancer, risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy (RRSO) is advised at an age when there is a high risk of developing ovarian cancer (before the age of 35-40 years for BRCA1 mutation carriers and at the age of 40-45 years for BRCA2 mutation carriers) provided that the woman no longer has a wish to have children [2,3].
