Recently, a number of randomized and non-randomized clinical trials have reported beneficial effects of SGLT-2i on NAFLD, as assessed either by surrogate biomarkers/indices (e.g., alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), gamma-glutamyl transferase (γ-GT), triglycerides, hepatic insulin sensitivity indices), or by intrahepatic fat content on CT, MRI and proton-magnetic resonance spectroscopy imaging [6,11]. This evidence concerns the gene INS and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
