The underlying molecular processes of SST- and PACAP-receptor signaling include the inhibition of proapoptotic molecules (e.g., caspase-3, caspase-8, FasL and calpain-2), meaning that they could be very well suited for reducing the harmful effects of diabetic retinopathy [21,57,58,59].
