Inflammasome sensor proteins include nucleotide binding oligomerization domain (NOD)-like receptor family, pyrin domain-containing protein (NLRP) 1, NLRP3, NLRP6, neuronal apoptosis inhibitory protein (NAIP)/ NLR containing C-terminal caspase recruitment domain protein 4 (NLRC4), absent in melanoma 2 (AIM2), and pyrin; each of these responds to specific pathogen- and danger-associated signals indicative of infection or cellular damage, triggering sensor protein oligomerization and the recruitment of ASC9,10. Here, AIM2 is linked to infection.
