Immunofluorescence analysis of the ear sections revealed a reduction in the total number of macrophages as assessed by reduced CD68 + expression within the ear lesion from 4.9% in WT to 0.5% in CD31-Hr-Tg (p < 0.001) (Figure 1C), a reduction in the number of granulomas per section (Figure 1D) and a shift in the phenotype of recruited cells to a more anti-inflammatory profile with significantly reduced ratio of iNOS:CD206 expression on CD68 + cells coupled with an increase in IL-10 expression (Figures 1E–1G).
