Although the average age of AD patients was higher than that of ALS patients (78 vs. 69 years old), the aging did not seem to affect the level of SH3BP5, because the level of SH3BP5 was not significantly lower in older persons (equal to or older than 71 years) than in younger persons (younger than 71 years) (unpaired t-test, p = 0.633) (Supplementary Fig. 13). Here, SH3BP5 is linked to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
