Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common cause of liver disease and has also been linked with mitochondrial dynamics and Parkin‐independent mitophagy (Loomba & Sanyal, 2013; Masuoka & Chalasani, 2013; Yamada et al, 2018). The gene discussed is PRKN; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
