Subsequent multiple evidences have suggested that FHIT plays an important role in suppressing cancer progression by regulating cell cycle, cell death, metastatic potential including epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) as well as correlating global genomic instability with LOH of FHIT gene 4-7 Compared to the robust role in FHIT gene as a tumor suppressor, the mechanism underlying FHIT-induced biology is relatively less understood because of lack of information about the binding partner of FHIT protein as either tumor suppressor or oncogenic protein. This evidence concerns the gene FHIT and cancer.
