Both variants (rs3761980 and rs80028505) showing an association with T2DM neuropathy are located near the Mitogen-activated protein kinase 14 coding gene (MAPK14) and have been previously linked to increased risk of diabetic foot ulcers in the report of The Genetics of Diabetes Audit and Research in Tayside Scotland (GoDARTS) project [49]. This evidence concerns the gene MAP3K14 and neuropathy.
