In a cohort of patients with HCV cirrhosis (n = 216), among which a subset of patients achieved cure (n = 21), high expression of SPHK1 was significantly associated with HCC risk in both cohorts (p < 0.034 for HCV cirrhosis and p < 0.006 for sustained virologic response (SVR), i.e., cure cohorts) [79]. This evidence concerns the gene SPHK1 and hepatocellular carcinoma.
