MAML2 and mucoepidermoid carcinoma: Notably, the most common genetic alteration in mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) of the salivary and bronchial glands is a recurrent t(11;19) (q21;p13) chromosomal translocation, resulting in a fusion transcript containing the exon 1 of the N-terminus of the MEC translocated 1 gene (MECT1) with the transactivation domain of MAML2 (corresponding to exons two through five) (Nordkvist et al., 1994; Tonon et al., 2003; Bell and El-Naggar, 2013).
