Metastasis-associated in colon cancer 1 (MACC1), first identified in 2009 as a differentially expressed gene in human colon cancer tissues, has been identified as a critical regulator and biomarker for cancer progression and metastasis in over 20 types of cancers, including bladder, colon, and esophageal cancers (Arlt and Stein, 2009; Qiu et al., 2011; Ashktorab et al., 2016; Qian et al., 2017). This evidence concerns the gene MACC1 and esophageal cancer.
