It is known that Th17 and its signature cytokine IL-17 play an important role and mediate a response in H. capsulatum infection; however, despite IL-17 not being necessary for survival, its neutralization alters inflammatory cell recruitment and elevates fungal burden in a murine model of histoplasmosis; therefore, it was demonstrated that this cytokine participates in the control of this fungal infection, particularly in the absence of IFN-γ (Deepe and Gibbons, 2009). The gene discussed is IL17A; the disease is fungal infectious disease.
