Only in an experimental model of paracoccidioidomycosis, the role of neutrophils in the pulmonary fibrosis development has been studied, where it was demonstrated that these phagocytic cells are detrimental and promote granulomatous inflammation and pulmonary fibrosis during the chronic course of the mycosis, a process that was also associated with the presence of IL-17 (Pino-Tamayo et al., 2016; Puerta-Arias et al., 2016). Here, IL17A is linked to fungal infectious disease.
