Numerous studies using murine models of atherosclerosis (summarized in Table 1) have either described an anti- (Hashimoto et al., 2014; Wang et al., 2017; Al-Sharea et al., 2017; Ulleryd et al., 2019) or pro-atherogenic role of the α7nAChR (Kooijman et al., 2015; Lee and Vazquez, 2015; Wang et al., 2017), being this aspect still an area of controversy in the literature. The gene discussed is CHRNA7; the disease is atherosclerosis.
