Interestingly a study using albumin (mg/L)/plasma albumin (g/L) ratio in the cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) to measure BBB dysfunction, revealed increased BBB dysfunction in PD compared to controls which was associated with increased CSF biomarkers of angiogenesis (e.g., VEGF) (Janelidze et al., 2015). The gene discussed is ALB; the disease is Parkinson disease.
