Refeeding on a typical ‘western’ diet high in saturated fat, however, blunts the increased sensitivity of adipose tissues to insulin-stimulated glucose uptake, as well as its capacity for de novo lipogenesis9, so that dietary fat offsets the ability of adipose tissue to buffer against glucose spared as a result of skeletal muscle insulin resistance, leading to exacerbated hyperinsulinemia and glucose intolerance. This evidence concerns the gene INS and Hyperinsulinemia.
