Key histopathological hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease, including extracellular amyloid-beta (Aβ) aggregates and intracellular hyperphosphorylated tau neurofibrillary tangles (Buckner et al., 2005), have distinct deposition patterns that may relate to aberrant patterns of network connectivity in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients.
