CCL2 and neoplasm: In particular, high levels of macrophage colony-stimulating factor (MCSF) and chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 2 (CCL2), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and TGF-β induce macrophages recruitment and infiltration in peri-tumoral tissue, their polarization in M2 phenotype as well as the differentiation in tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) [178,179] (Figure 2).
