Increases in the expression of several key glycolytic enzymes such as hexokinase 2 (HK2), pyruvate kinase muscle isozyme‐2 (PKM2) and lactate dehydrogenase type A (LDHA) (Dang et al., 2008; DeBerardinis et al., 2008; Lewis et al., 2000) are well‐documented in cancers exposed to hypoxic conditions.
