SLC5A2 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease: Although it has been shown that SGLT-2 inhibitors significantly improve serum liver enzyme levels and liver fat content assessed by imaging techniques (mostly MRI-PDFF or MRS), no robust data are currently available in the literature with liver histological endpoints as a primary outcome to comment on the efficacy of SGLT-2 inhibitors as a specific treatment for NAFLD or NASH.
