SST and Alzheimer disease: Aβ-induced derailment of the tight functional relationship in hippocampal circuits between θ oscillation (controlled by SST interneurons as well as by medial septum and entorhinal cortex inputs) and γ activity (controlled by PV interneurons) implies a dysregulation of the crosstalk of cholinergic, glutamatergic, and GABAergic systems during early AD stages, leading to impaired information processing and encoding.
