In logistic regression analysis, log-transformed urinary NGAL concentration (odds ratio per unit change 3.46; 95% confidence interval 1.29–9.21; p = 0.012) or log-transformed NGAL/creatinine ratio (odds ratio per unit change 3.10; 95% confidence interval 1.20–7.97; p = 0.018) predicted urinary tract infections during the follow-up independently of sex. This evidence concerns the gene LCN2 and urinary tract infection.
