Remarkably, the S protein of human coronaviruses including, NL63 [75], SARS-CoV [76] and SARS-CoV-2 [16] can also employ angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2) as an entry receptor for infection, suggesting that both ACE2 and the lectin family proteins, CD209L and CD209, contribute to the spread of these pathogens in vivo.
