Based on this study and in order to provide the first insight into the potential for sub-chronic consumption of maté in attenuating a transient endothelial dysfunction, we evaluated some markers related to endothelial dysfunction (cell adhesion molecules: VCAM-1, ICAM-1) and inflammation (IL-6 and CRP) in the blood sampled from a representative subset of our study population in fasted conditions and after the OGGT (Table 4). Here, CRP is linked to endothelial dysfunction.
