FN is a modular protein composed of homologous repeats of three prototypical domains known as types I, II, and III [38]; of these, fibronectin type-III (FN3) is the largest and the most abundant in the protein [39–42].Previous studies have reported alternatively spliced mRNA variants of FN1, and these have been highly associated with HCC development [43, 44], but have not been investigated in the context of normal serum AFP level. This evidence concerns the gene AFP and hepatocellular carcinoma.
