Indeed, upon treatment of LoVo, HCT-116 [24] and HT29 adenocarcinoma cells with 5-aza-2-deoxycytidine (a DNA methyltransferase inhibitor), HPP1 mRNA expression was restored, indicating that DNA methylation rather than LOH was the main contributing factor in silencing HPP1 in colorectal cancer.
