The 2-HG oncometabolite found in IDH1 and IDH2 mutations in AML patients, facilitates leukaemic transformation by increasing ROS, and thus IDH1 and 2 inhibitors can be seen as a promising strategy against AML and they can counteract the ROS effects which increase in patients with low expression levels of GPX3 (Fujii et al., 2016). Here, GPX3 is linked to acute myeloid leukemia.
