As ET‐1 is pro‐inflammatory and a potent vasoconstrictor (Dhaun & Webb, 2019), it is conceivable that a reduction in the post‐exercise levels of this factor following leg heating may abrogate ischemia‐reperfusion injury and possibly facilitate post‐exercise hypotension (Cucato et al., 2015), thereby augmenting the benefits of exercise in symptomatic PAD patients. The gene discussed is EDN1; the disease is peripheral arterial disease.
