Myers et al. (2015) reported that IGF signaling, together with the MAPK or PI3K/AKT signaling pathways, was activated in cisplatin-resistant ESCC patients, and inhibition of the IGF or/and MAPK and PI3K/AKT signaling pathways could sensitize ESCC cells to cisplatin. Based on clinical pathological and in vitro data, Sugimura et al. (2012) demonstrated that the interleukin-6/STAT3 prosurvival pathway was activated in ESCC cells by cisplatin treatment, and inhibition of that feedback pathway by let-7c restored sensitivity to cisplatin. This evidence concerns the gene IGF1 and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.
