While this study found application of breathing motions reduced NSCLC cell proliferation and cluster formation within an Alveolus-Chip, it also resulted in the downregulation of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) expression and signaling which ultimately led to the accumulation of tumor cells resistant to tyrosine kinase inhibitor mediated growth inhibition (Hassell et al., 2017). The gene discussed is EGFR; the disease is non-small cell lung carcinoma.
