The inflammatory profile detected in this study using wild-type P. gingivalis has a close similarity to that found in periodontal disease, with elevated levels of proinflammatory cytokines TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 and chemokines such as IL-8, which are characteristically found in gingival tissues of periodontal disease patients (35). This evidence concerns the gene CXCL8 and periodontal disorder.
