Of the HBsAg positive patients able to afford HBV DNA testing, only 7/12 (58%) of the HCC patients and 2/12 (16.7%) of the cirrhosis patients would have qualified for antiviral therapy based on their alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and HBV DNA levels if their HCC or cirrhosis status were unknown, using the current WHO treatment guidelines.
