CDKAL1-rs10946398 was previously reported to be associated with birth weight and type 2 diabetes [35], so it was possible that CDKAL1-rs10946398 influenced type 2 diabetes risk by affecting birth weight, or CDKAL1-rs10946398 indeed had an interaction with prenatal exposure to famine in type 2 diabetes risk, but such explanations are speculative and they still need to be replicated in different cohorts. Here, CDKAL1 is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
