Despite mutations of the APC gene being well documented in colorectal cancers as a whole, the incidence of mutations is reported at notably lower rates in EOCRC than in older patients [20,21], adding to speculation that sporadic EOCRC may be a subtype of CRC with distinct clinical and molecular features [10,22,23] that reflect alternative pathways for the development of CRC. This evidence concerns the gene APC and colorectal cancer.
