The pharmacological disruption of endosomal membranes or co-infection with endosomolytically active adenovirus, but not with inactive variants, partially rescued the infectivity of the PLA2 mutants, suggesting a role of the VP1u PLA2 in altering the endosomal membrane integrity to enable endosomal escape of viruses into the cytosol [24,26]. The gene discussed is PLA2G2A; the disease is coinfection.
