In the hippocampus of mice with anxiety-like symptoms (i.e., CTRL), a reduction of protein levels of phosphorylated extracellular signal-regulated kinase (p-ERK)44, p-ERK42 and BDNF was detected as soon as there was an increase in cyclic AMP response element binding (CREB) levels compared to naïve mice.
