COVID-19 causes neutrophilia, lymphopenia, leukopenia, thrombopenia, and anemia as well as increased expression of systemic inflammatory proteins IL-6, C-reactive protein (CRP), innate chemokines (CXCL10, CCL2, CCL3) and the proinflammatory cytokine TNF-α [11–13]. The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is lymphopenia.
