In particular, adiponectin (Adipoq) expression was diminished and resistin (Retn) expression was increased (Figure 5—figure supplement 1E), both of which are associated with insulin resistance (Kadowaki, 2006; Jiang et al., 2016), especially since adiponectin represses the expression of gluconeogenic genes in hepatocytes and promotes membrane localization of GLUT4 in myocytes to increase the uptake of glucose (Combs et al., 2001; Yamauchi et al., 2002).
