Eosinophil activities in allergic disease are well studied, particularly in asthma, with identified roles for inflammation (e.g. MBP, IL-13), mucus production (IL-13), epithelial damage (MBP, EPX), tissue remodeling/fibrosis (IL-13, TGF-β), and smooth muscle hyperresponsiveness (IL-13, leukotrienes) (165, 166). Here, IL13 is linked to allergic disease.
