This is in contrast to the drastic increases in TEWL observed in ichthyosis gene knockouts, which are usually measured in the order of tenfold higher than wild-type and are associated with neonatal fatality (e.g., (22, 25, 26, 27)), whereas all the Ephx3−/− pups survive with no apparent problems of desiccation.
