ACE and injury: angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors-inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers seem to be associated with a lower incidence of APT: they increase isoform 2 of ACE expression and activity, which degrades Angiotensin II to Ang1–7, hence diminishing Angiotensin II receptor 1-mediated deleterious effects of enhancing amiodarone-induced apoptosis of alveolar epithelial cell, that in turn plays a central role in the development of acute lung injury [13–15].
